Applique Thursday - A Start

At this rate, I can drag this block out for several months.....grin.
Not much progress at all.  I hope I can cut it out better than I drew the lines.

I did go to the doctors today and get some medicine.
Cough, Cough!

Don't forget to go to Angie's A Quilting Reader's Garden and add your link sharing your applique project.

This WASSSSSSSS the plan.

This is what's on my wall and my planned BOM for this week.
I got the fabric yesterday, but am feeling a little puny after our trip to Kinder.
Maybe I'll be better tomorrow.

Hoten POW Camp Liberated

My father was in the Bataan Death March during WWII.  The last POW camp he was at was Hoten in Manchuri, China.  This is a video that made it to youtube.  There is no sound.  I do have a copy of this video given to us by another POW that knew my Dad.  My father is at 4:02.  He is the good looking guy on the left with his hand on the shoulder of the guy to his right with the white cap.  My father does not have on a hat.

Dad passed away in 1983 and I still miss him.

Hey Dad you made it to youtube!!

Applique Thursday - Snowbound

I promised the big boy he would soon swoon
When I sewed on his face, but he still looks gloom
The package he holds will soon make him smile
But I'm so sorry it will take a while.

It's NOT Christmas yet!

I have my own Wacker!

NO it's not a weed wacker!

Dawn at Quilts and Pieces unduly pressured me in to buying my own wacker....giggle.  Go see her  great review, and then if you can't resist and want your own 'Wacker' go to Harvest House Quilting and then you'll be just like me.

If Mick finds this whacker, I'm afraid he might just use it on me.

**edited a couple of times to correct spelling....whacker to wacker.........LOL

Farmers Daughter

This one would be easy to piece except the rotary cutting sizes ask for 1/16s inches, so I just paper pieced it.  Lots of the gals are using templates.

Have a Farmer's Daughter Day!

Regina Grewe's Paper Piecing Tips

Regina Grewe has tips for avoiding shrinkage on paper piecing blocks.  Go see her hints and all her lovely patterns. Just click on her name to go directly to this tip.

Also note that Regina talks about using the Quick Trimmer to cut a 20 cm seam in her latest free block pattern Garden Fun: Apple Harvest.  The Quick Trimmer is available on her website along with many more tips for paper piecing.

Regina has increased the seam allowance on this pattern to help with shrinkage.

Dear Jane J-7 Chicken Tracks

A little wonky but finished.

I stripped pieced this one, but it was hard to handle because of the size.
Looking back I should have cut the little squares to have a flower in each dark square.
That would have been nice.

Have a great weekend!

Applique Thursday...........Sew me..finish me..don't leave me undone!

First she was going to sew the twins, and then she liked my crown,
 soon she jumped to her BOM and tossed us to the ground.
Next came The Farmers Wife, and then a Dear Jane came to life.
Have we met our end or to the quilter's wall will we be pinned.

Next Thursday my babies, I promise you soon,
you'll have your eyes and everyone will swoon.

(Giggle....I must be losing my mind.)

Don't forget to go the Angie's A Quilting Reader's Garden and join her Applique Thursday Linky.

I promise it will bring the inner poet to play
and make you happy and quiet gay.

I have to STOPPPP!

Happy Dance........just love my maillady!

I won this wonderful book last March.  It's here!!
It includes the CD.  I haven't had a chance to play with it yet.  You know I need something else to start on....LOL.
You can get your own at Laurie's main page
If it looks familiar, she also wrote The Farmers Wife book.

Laurie has yahoo groups for each book if you like to sew along with friends.
hmmmmmmmmmmm...is this a good reason to buy more fabric??

Surely I have a bundle that will work or NOT....any reason to shop.

Think I'll have Mick put this on my Tombstone
(not being gross..I also do genealogy so think of things like that)

"She loved to start, but now she's finished"

I think I really like that.  Can you imagine generations down the line trying to figure out that one!

Help Gene Black an Alabama Artist.....

become our next Fabric Designer.  Okay guys and gals go see Gene's Blog and look at his fabric designs.  He has a link to Connecting Thread for the voting.

Good Luck Gene!

The Three Muskateers, a Squirrel, and a Drizzle

We had about 10 Bluejays fly into the yard today and attack our bird bath.  It was so hot today.  It wasn't long until we had another friend stop by.

and boot them out.  He stayed for the longest and wasn't going to share....giggle.

We had a very small cloud burst today and some thunder.  I planned on taking a picture of our small puddle, but it dried up before I got out there.  It did cool off outside which was wonderful.

Maybe next time.

My life in a song.................

Dawn want us to pick a song that describes our life.....was that the beginning, the middle, now or our hope.  I'm not sure.  The first song describes my childhood and early adulthood.  The one below is what I'm yearning for.

Look at this cutie....dimples and all

Is Frank is back??  No it's Gary Russo from NY.

Dear Jane Block K-5 finished

Not perfect but finished!!

I'm sure there must have been an easier way to make this block.  For some reason I couldn't get the foundation block to print out so I printed about a dozen pictures of the block and cut them up and paper pieced them back together.
~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the first Dear Jane block I've finished since I added my 'Dear Jane Progress' button on the right side of my blog.  It took some remembering to put that little picture of K-5 in the chart....Phewwww!
You can click on that to see my other blocks.....only 4 in total....grin.
Owls, thread, and fabric.....
I won the cute little owls from Krista's blog poppyprint a while back, but with everything going on I just took the picture.  I also won the brightly colored thread from Leona's Quilting Adventure
Go check out both of their blogs.
The fat eights I bought for myself.  Big Mick said I needed to cut down on my purchases, so I bought fat eights instead of fat quarters.  Hey, it works for me.....grin.
Have a great day!
Date Night!!
Mick and I are going to the Bastrop Opera House tonight to see, "Always.......Patsy Cline"  How fun is that!  I still remember when I was 15 (and thin) sitting at the Goliad swimming pool listening to Patsy Cline play on the speakers.  This was before I met Mick.  We were 16 and 17 when we started dating.....where did the time go.
I got my Medicare card just the other day........... :(((((  Hey it's not effective until November...giggle.
Applique Thursday
Angie over at A Quilting Readers Garden has started Applique Thursday.  Believe me I need to drag out some of my applique projects to finish.
This Thursday I'm dragging out Emilie's Raspberry Truffle quilt top I worked on in 2008 and 2009.  I really need to keep this one where I can see it so I'll get the urge to hand quilt it....grin.  You gals know how I hate finishing quilts.
Emilie's Raspberry Truffle was a kit I purchased from Connecting Threads.
A Couple of Pictures of My Day
From top to Bottom....Isla, Lucky, and Shelley
They look clean to me!  Good job Lucky.
Lives in the drought, but look at the teeth holes.  Some little critter was hunger.
I'm afraid.
Very Afraid!!
Poor grass...no rain in site.  And we water.
