OUCH!

Wednesday I was heading to the computer with a full glass of tea.  Yep, you guessed it!  I got my foot caught on the leg of the computer chair and crashed into my desk.  I am heavily padded so was just left with a nasty bruise on my side.

I kept the tea from spilling all over my computer and caught the monitor right before it crashed on the floor.  I knew my poor foot was hurting.  Of course, over the years I've bent these poor toes all the way back before and just limped around for awhile so I didn't get too excited about it.  Just howled like a hurt puppy.

I finally stopped screaming and looked down at my toe and instead of pointing straight out it was pointing at my pinkie toe.  I would share the photo, but it's too gross.  Off we went to the emergency to get it straightened out.  Boy was I shocked when he said I needed to go to a specialist.

Well I saw him today and he was wonderful.  All smiles, good handshake.  I'm thinking this nice man will put my toe back in place.  He gave me two options.  Leave it crooked or get surgery.  Well there you go....surgery on Tuesday.  He has to put a pin in it to keep it in place because of the strange break.  Looks like 5 to 6 weeks of recovery.

I'm sure when I'm not so mad at myself and the swelling goes down, I'll figure out how to redo my sewing room so I can sew, cut, and iron sitting down....maybe.  Right now I'm just sitting around in my wheel chair doing my share of pouting.

Keep good thoughts for me on Tuesday and hope I'm not in too much pain.  Pain pills make me sick.

From the not so graceful old lady in Texas....giggle.

Oh, sweetie - so ouchie ouchie indeed!!!! Take time to heal. Perfect time to do some hand work. Although that's when I took up quilting - confined to a wheel chair with both legs straight out.

Oh, not good at all! I thought I was the master of broken toes but you've got me beat. Once the doctor wanted to re-break a toe to set it but I said no thanks. I will be thinking of you and hoping it all goes well. pile up the handwork for a diversion.

Oh dear, not a happy tale. Hope the surgery goes well and you heal quickly and well. Wishing you luck in reorganising your sewing area too. hugs.

Glad that there is not much pain, but sorry you are laid up! Focus on what you can do, does this get you out of housework?

Oh my goodness. You poor thing.

I have used tv trays with small ironing pad and small cutting mats before. Actually that is how I do paper piecing. Set up 2 trays and put them right beside me:)

Hope your recovery is complete and quick.

So sorry Billie, ow!! The only bones I have ever broken have been toe bones and I just use the tape it to the next one approach...sounds like you broke it extra good though, wow!

Oh my goodness, Billie! It's happens so fast, and so easily! Yesterday I misstepped getting up from my sewing machine and it was more important to save my machine from hitting the floor than my self. In my case, it was more comical than painful. I wish you a speedy recovery! Just think of all the handwork you'll accomplish!

Oh, Billie. So sorry to hear about your mishap! Please take time to heal, as we all try to get back to normal sooner than we really need to, so take a mini vacation from all the things you do now!

Oh my goodness! Oh honey! I have had a few broken bones, but not my toe. Just stubbing toes hurts like crazy, I can't imagine your pain. Take it easy, let everyone do for you, relax, take advantage.

Oh Billie - your injury sounds awful! Hope the surgery goes well, and that you are (literally ) back on your feet soon. Take it easy!!!

Oh my goodness that is something I would do, lol! Poor Billie - I'll be praying for you, hon! I have two pins in my left foot, we'll compare when I see you next month. Oh dear, do you think we'll still be able to get together?!
Post after surgery when you can....tell them to put in the 24-hour pain relief, my surgeon did and it was amazing. Not so amazing when it wore off though. Stock up on ice packs, you'll need them. If you keep it cold, it won't hurt so much. Big hugs and lotsa prayers!

ouch that must hurt. I suppose you will be in plaster following the op, hope it is not your machine foot control foot so you will be able to machine. No housework cooking etc for you is my recomendation so plenty of time to sew

Bad enough to break it but to have to have surgery for a fix is double trouble. Hope you have some handwork to keep you busy during the recovery time.

Oh you poor woman! Horrible news to read when I'm just coming back to quilting again. Hope you are up and kick a two step again soon.

Oh! That sounds so miserable. I'm so sorry that you're hurt. I hope the pain subsides soon and you're able to find some workarounds to keep you quilting. Maybe work on a handwork project? A great time to watch some craftsy classes and learn some new skills?

Oh man, Billie! I am so sorry to hear about your toe. I'm glad you are having it fixed. My Mom had a broken toe a few years ago and didn't have it taken care of completely (no surgery) and now it is messing up her foot. All of her toes on that foot are sort of heading west. :(

I hope your surgery goes really well. I'm sure it will be fine and you'll come through it like a trooper. I hope you can get lots of sewing done during your recovery.

Take care,
Susan in Texas

If you sewing room is anything like mine it is well padded with fabric so one has to wonder how could such a thing as a broken toe have happened? As far as I am concerned the solution is to add more fabric for padding! Hope all goes well with surgery and that you are back in the saddle in no time flat!

Now you've done it! I can't imagine that toe so bent. Prayers being said for a speedy recovery.

Ouch! That must’ve done a number on you, didn't it? Well, surgery is alright, and in fact most welcome. It would help with making the recovery go faster, rather than relying on your body to heal itself. You just have to rest afterwards, and not let any weight on it for a while. Take care!

I'm so behind reading blogs and then I see this...you poor thing! I hope the surgery went well and your toe is now pointing the right direction.

Oh my goodness that sounds awful. I do the surgery was a success and those sweet little piggies are lined up nicely like they should be. Hope your getting plenty of rest and well down the road to recovery!

Dear Fellow Klutz , I broke my little toe a few years ago and just had to wear a boot. Then after that came off I stubbed the living crap out of it and now I never go barefoot...I am afraid of myself, ha ha !

So sorry about yours being worse and having had to have surgery, ugh :(

Carla said...

ahaa that's how you broke your toe. As I told you in an email my daughter did the almost same thing. It was her little toe and it was pointing left instead of straight ahead.

Take it easy and get better soon
